Resolution, Schmezolution!

Today I'm linking up with Jen at The Teacher's Cauldron to share my resolutions goals for 2013. No, I'm not a fan of the word "resolution" - but I do like to set goals for myself. :)

I caught myself so often thinking,  "Ooh! I need to blog about this! Where's the camera?" My camera now has a permanent place in my work bag so I can catch all of those moments I've been ooh-ing and aah-ing about. :) I also have several 7 Habits updates I need to share with you. Going through all of the training to become a Leader in Me School has been overwhelming at times, but I know it will be worth it!

I love, love, love the church we've found here. I ran into one of our worship leaders a couple of weeks ago, and was telling him how much it meant to me to have a church "home" again and he just smiled and said, "There's something special about that place, isn't there?" :) So true! I'm hoping to join a community group and hopefully volunteer in our church nursery as well.

I'm also looking forward to starting Jesus Calling (thank you, Bren!). I think this will be the perfect way to start my mornings. The Kindle version is only $1.99 right now!

In addition, I'm joining Angela in a Bible Study just for teachers. There's still time to join us - click on over! I've been in a "desert" for several years, but my faith has come through an amazing renewal and I am thirsty for Him.

Well, now that I've gotten all personal on you I hope you'll take the plunge too! Make sure you grab the button above and link up with Jen at The Teacher's Cauldron!

Best and Brightest of 2012

My sweet friend Christina is having a Best and Brightest linky party, and I thought I'd join in on the fun! I really loved looking back and seeing how this blog has grown in 2012! :)

Best Post:

According to my Google stats, you fabulous people loved the updated version of the 7 Habits of Happy Kids posters. I must admit, I was pretty thrilled with Denyse's interpretation of the 7 Habits at Scrappin' Doodles. I also have some freebies in the works to cover the first 3 habits.

We are almost finished with our school-wide 7 Habits training and I am excited to be a part of our Lighthouse Team. If your school is looking for a way to instill leadership skills in your students, you should talk to your administrators about the 7 Habits of Happy Kids/Leader in Me program!

Favorite Post:

My favorite post (as I mentioned a couple of posts ago) was probably the one about Will. I. Am. Our kids love, love, love this song. On our last day before winter break, it was the last thing we did before we ended our "family group" celebration.

My teaching partner and I both have huge poster sized versions of the lyrics in our room so we can all sing along whenever we have time to play the video!

Best Product:

I wanted to challenge myself this year. I'm very comfortable creating grammar and vocabulary units. I feel like I have a "formula" for those. So when I had the idea for a writing unit, I put everything I had into making sure it was practically perfect.

Click Me!

My sweet bloggy BFF Mandy even helped me add some "pizazz" to it with a cute craft-ivity. I have gotten some of the sweetest feedback from this unit - and it truly was a relief. I have some more writing units in my "to-create" list. As soon as they are kid tested and approved, I'll be ready to share them with you!

Mandy's Tips for Teachers

Brightest New Bloggy Peeps:

iTeach: I am so GLAD my friend Aileen jumped into the blogging and TpT world. Her blog is always full of fun freebies and fabulous advice. She is my co-director for our drama club at school and I could not pull it off without her.

Third Grade Tidbits: My new blogging buddy, Gina! She inspires me to have a constant excitement for teaching and is one of my favorite "editors." :) Right now, she has a super-cute post up about a pen pal exchange she just did.

Third Grade Tidbits

Creekside Teacher Tales: Tracy has the most fabulous ideas for products. I am envious of how quickly she can think of something, create it and share it with the teaching-blogging world. If you haven't seen her Winter Main Idea pack, you need to go sneak a peek... now!

I hope you've enjoyed my look back at 2012! To celebrate the end of the year, and in hopes of some winter weather here, I'm throwing a "Welcome Winter!" sale. Everything in my TpT store will be 20% off for the rest of the year! :)

Holly Bloggy Giveaway!

Just a heads up - if you are a Holly Bloggy Christmas participant, I am hosting a giveaway today on Teacher Blogger Exchange!

I'm giving away four of my favorite winter read-alouds.  If you're participating, head on over and enter. A teacher can never have too many books! :)

Revised and Uploaded... Again!

I've been busy revising and uploading (again)! I look back at some of my first products and I cannot resist the urge to do some a lot of tweaking. It's like poking at my eyes with a dirty stick sometimes, but it's worth it.

Soooo..... if you have Swimming With Suffixes or Spotting Subject-Verb Agreement, you are definitely going to want to hop over to TpT and re-download the new versions!

Both units have had a "makeover" and I've beefed them up with some fun new resources.

Enjoy! I'm off to get some last minute Christmas shopping done... Anyone else in the same boat? :)

12 in 12 Linky Party... and ANOTHER FREEBIE!

What better day to link up with Miss Kindergarten and A Teeny Tiny Teacher than on 12-12-12?! :) I am so excited to share a few of my favorite things! Here we go...
12. Favorite movie you watched: Pitch Perfect
No, it's not going to win any Oscars, but it did make me laugh. Especially this girl...

Bumper: I get the feeling that we should kiss... I mean is that a good feeling or, like, a wrong feeling?
Fat Amy: Wellll, sometimes I feel like I could do crystal meth but then I think, hmm, better not.

(How can you NOT giggle at that?)

11. Favorite TV series: I {heart} Grey's Anatomy.
It might be DVR'd, but I am never more than a few days behind. Never.
10. Favorite restaurant: There is a local spot called Muss & Turner's we like to go for "hot date" nights. ;-) There is even a hideaway speakeasy bar called Eleanor's inside. Awesome deliciousness. If you live in the Atlanta area, you must go. And take me with you.

9. Favorite new thing you tried: Quinoa
Note: You must cook it in chicken broth, but it is a fabulous substitute for rice in lots of casseroles!

8. Favorite gift you got: This.
 Be still my heart.
Every morning.

7. Favorite thing you pinned: I'm sure lots of people will come up with something totally pin-spiring, but this is it for me.

If you knew me in 6th grade, you would totally agree. And laugh with me.

6. Favorite blog post: The One About Will.I.Am
We still party down to this song all the time. My kids love it. We do too.

5. Best accomplishment: Directing 35+ kids in a 90 minute production of Charlotte's Web with iTeach. 90% of our cast spoke Spanish as their first language. It was incredible and awesome to see them pull it all together. I cannot wait to do it again this year - Snow White and the 7 Dwarves of the Black Forest. Poverty is not a learning disability, people. Our children can do anything.

4. Favorite picture: See below. <3
3. Favorite memory: Spending one last makeshift Christmas with my sweet Ruby (last December).
Me, Ruby-Dooby-Doo and my teaching partner, M.
2. Goal for 2013: Lose weight so I can be a healthy pregnant lady. Couch to 5K, here I come!
NOTE: I am NOT in any way, shape, or form pregnant NOW.
I just want to be in better shape when I get there. Mkay?
1. One Little Word: {This is my favorite part!!!}
Last year, my word was grace. This year, I want to focus on being a...

Our pastor recently challenged us to be a light for Him this season.
Why not make it all year?
If I am going to be a true follower of Christ, the people in my life should notice something different about me. They should notice my light.

And, as promised - a quick freebie!

If you're looking for a fun way to incorporate some writing before the holiday break, I think this will do the trick. I've also included a story prompt for those sweet babies whose families do not celebrate the holidays. Click on over to grab it!

Happy Wednesday! Only 2 more "wake-ups" until the weekend!

A Christmas Freebie and a Nook Color HD Giveaway!

I love happy posts.

This one feels especially happy.

I have a brand-spankin'-new freebie for you:

Click Me!
It is a super-cute verb sort that my kiddos love! I made it last year with the intention of sharing it, forgot about it and found it last week. Lucky you! :)

You can use it 2 ways:

1) Use it as a whole group lesson. Let your kiddos take turns pulling the sentence cards out of a container and sorting or gluing them on a large chart underneath the tense "header" cards.

This is how I've done it the last 2 years because let's face it - they are CRAZY right now. So am I. I don't want anymore papers to grade - do you? :)

2) Use it as a center option. Kids can work independently or with a partner. I've added a recording sheet if you want to utilize it this way. On the recording sheet, I only had the kids record 2 of the sentences they sorted. I just didn't think it was an effective use of literacy time to have them write down 24 sentences. If they can identify the tense of 6 sentences correctly, they've probably got it. :)

I'm also participating in a FANTASTIC giveaway over at Tips for Top Teachers, one of the collaborative blogs I am a part of. You have until December 15th to enter and there are multiple ways to qualify! In addition to the Nook Color HD, we're also giving away a CRAZY FABULOUS package of teacher resources from some of your favorite bloggers. You must click over and enter!

Click Me Too!!

I hope I've left you with a little "happy" today! Hopefully it will make the rest of your time between now and your Christmas break a little easier!

Currently, 12 Days of Christmas and a Giveaway!

Thank goodness for Farley.

She always gets my tail back on track. :)

Listening: I know I said it last month, but if you haven't checked out Spotify you are missing out. It's seriously Pandora on steroids. As long as I'm working on my computer, I can listen to whatever I want. I love making playlists and my "Joy to the World" list is my current fave.

Loving: That man of mine. My sweet boy made me pancakes last Saturday and eggs this past weekend. I am a lucky girl. He cooks dinner occasionally, but never breakfast. I don't know what's gotten into him, but I like it!

Thinking: I am one of four girls. I love my sisters. I love when we have those rare moments when it's "just us" again. I get to have one of those moments this weekend. But I can't say much more about it. My mother never reads this blog. Heck, she hardly ever checks her Facebook. But I don't want to spoil the surprise. However, I will promise to show you evidence of our "moment" later this month. Deal? Deal.

Wanting: I can hardly wait. The hubs has agreed that it is time for me to get a new laptop. He's even agreed to a Mac. HOLY MOLEY, people! Now, I know I just finished bragging on him... however, the man is cheap! Cheap, cheap, cheap! He will have a stroke if I spend more than $75 at the grocery store, but he has agreed to a Mac laptop! (Do you hear the angels singing, or is it just me?)

Needing: I am in serious need of a daily devotional. Something I can read before the bell rings and the "thundering herd" comes tumbling in. I am open to all suggestions. If you have a book you love, please let me know about it in the comments below.

R.A.K.: My sweet friend L has recently committed herself to a relationship with Christ. My heart is rejoicing. Her excitement for Jesus inspires me to seek Him more, and I want to encourage her as well. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Passion City Church and they had Matt Redman's new CD on sale. I picked up one for myself, my sister J and sweet friend L.

(BTW - if you live in the Atlanta area and you haven't made it over to Passion City, you are missing out. As I told my mama, "If Passion Worship is 1/100th of what it will be like in heaven, I can't wait to get there." Don't get me wrong, I love my church close by - but I also try to visit Passion about once a month. It's amazing.)

I also have 2 different giveaways to tell you about that I am excited to be a part of...
