I'm sharing my "4-squares" that I use whenever I show a movie to my kiddos. We are blessed to have subscriptions to Discovery Streaming, BookFlix, BrainPop and BrainPop Jr. - not to mention a resource room full of videos our media specialist works hard to align with our standards.

I want the times we watch movies to be meaningful, so we almost always fill out one of these 4-squares afterwards. I've included a "fiction" and a "nonfiction" version. Our class discussions are always richer when we use these, and you can also collect student responses on a class anchor chart to have a lasting reminder of what they learned.

I hope this makes up for the delay! :)

Happy Thursday!

Playing With Prefixes: Updated and Revised!

Oh my word. It's finished.

I'm slowly but surely going back through some of my very first units and updating them. The first one I wanted to work on was Playing with Prefixes. I've learned a few things since I first wrote that unit and I wanted to make some changes.

- A poem that wasn't illegal. :) (Oh, the things you learn about copyrights!)
- Graphics that were a little more "ink" friendly. (There are still plenty of color graphics, but lots of black and white printables as well.)
- An additional prefix! I've learned that teaching them in "groups of three" is much more efficient than just two at a time.
- I added 2 different "flipbooks" for interactive journals - my kids LOVED these!
- A new partner game in addition to the partner/small group game from the first packet
- Lots, lots more!

Everything I put into my packets is tested out in my classroom first. So when I added the flipbooks, I wanted to make sure they were teacher and kid-friendly.

We use "Super Skills Journals" in our Skills Block (ELA) time.

The kids love getting them out.
I always say, "Alright kiddos, it's time for SU-PER SKILLS!" and they answer "KAPOW!" :)

I shrink our poems and responses to 85% on the copier, and they fit right in once we trim them.

Here's a look at one of the activities from Playing with Prefixes in our Super Skills Journals:

So, right now there are about 75 of you who need to go and re-download the new file. For the rest of you, click below to find it in my TpT store. I'm marking it down until Monday and then the price will return to normal.

I'll be back later this week with the Macy's giveaway winner and a freebie to make up for the delay in announcing a winner. :)

Currently! October 2012 edition :)

Hey y'all! :) Time to link up with Farley again!

I can hardly believe October is here...

So the sweet boy has a staff meeting on Wednesday nights, so that's my DVR date night. I get to watch all of the stuff he hates! Tonight it was the series finale of Weeds and now I have the debate on the background.

I am a Pandora girl. I love my Pandora stations. Recently, I created a Nichole Nordeman station and I l-o-v-e it! It is one of those things that just sets my spirit right in the morning.

Our school has officially adopted The Leader in Me (LIM) program and we're doing a book study as a whole staff. I am waaay behind. As soon as I get off this computer, I'm crawling into bed with my LIM book so I can get caught up for tomorrow's discussion!

I really want a laptop. That doesn't belong to my school district. Luckily, the hubs is on board with this. Suggestions? :)

I had to choose 2 favorites for the book section. After all, I am a bookworm.

I love reading the Herdman books to my kids and The Best Worst Halloween Ever by Barbara Robinson is no exception. It follows The Best Worst Christmas Pageant Ever and The Best Worst School Year Ever.

The Herdmans are still awful and the kids and I still laugh out loud every year.

I also love Porkenstein by Katherine Lasky. We had a great time inventing our own creations last year after reading this. I have a few other activities planned for this book later this month. I can't wait to share them with you!
If you've never done a "Currently" before, it's one of my favorite linky parties. Head on over to Farley's and join in on all the fun!
