Clip Chart Goodness

So, I'm doing it. I'm jumping on the clipchart bandwagon.

Clip Chart

I have been anti-clipchart for about as long as I've been teaching.I just didn't like a system where a child never had: 1) the opportunity to turn their day around or 2) the chance to go beyond green. Where's the incentive in that? I stay on green to avoid being in trouble. I want more than that for my kids. I want them to know it feels good to make choices that help us become better people. I'm super thankful that my teaching partner is willing to try just about anything I ask her to. We've found a way to make ours "mobile" and it will be an additional leadership role (job) in our room.

So, I'm sharing my clip chart headers with you. Nothing fancy, just something to make it cute. :)

PS - I'm thinking about some upcoming blog posts about lessons and books that tie into the 7 Habits for Happy Kids. I know a few of my sweet bloggy friends have started to use this in their schools, but I didn't know many of you were out there. If you don't mind, take a second to answer the poll at the top right so I know what direction to head in! Thanks!!

PPS - Forgive me if this post is a hot mess. Back-to-School Insomnia has set in. Nothing my doctor has given is really helping. I was asleep at 9:30, but wide awake at 3:30. Yay. Fun.

  1. Hi Abby! I'm so excited that you are going to be posting more about the 7 habits. I know for me it is the first year for my school so I am curious how to introduce the habits to my kids and looking for ways to naturally incorporate it into my classroom. Also, I would love some guidance on data notebooks. Thanks!!

    P.S. I can't sleep either. Ugh!!

  2. We use a clip system too. Here is a simplified explanation:
Everyone starts on GREEN, after 2 warnings they move down to YELLOW (warning), then RED (lose 5 mins of recess/free time and sign folder), BLUE (lose 10 mins of recess/free time and contact parent), and SILVER (lose 15 mins recess/free time and office referral).
Kids CAN earn their way back up one color AND...if they have an incredible, awesome, wonderful day they earn PURPLE!! The kids love this!

  3. Would you mind sharing how you made your clip chart mobile? I've been trying to figure out a way to make it do-able for 2 team teachers!

I've been having trouble getting to sleep. For the past few nights I haven't been going to sleep until past 2 am! Very annoying!

  4. I hope that you enjoy the clip chart this year. I have used a clip chart for the past four years and I love it! Last year I was departmentalized and my teaching partner and I had a mobile chart and it worked out great for us and especially our kids. I wish you lots of luck this year!!!
